Hello my name is Kevin and I am a St. Petersburg tennis coach with over 20 years of tennis playing experience and 12 years of teaching experience. I have spent the last few years running and coaching a tennis academy as well as the adult high performance program at HCC Tennis Center in Tampa. I am still there currently but I plan to transition into coaching more on a private basis outside of the club, which I also spent many years doing previously. As a junior, I trained under Brian McCoy in Fridley, Minnesota (both in his academy and on a private basis) who has coached countless players who have gone onto play on the ATP Pro Tour (one of which being his son and I have hopes of joining the ranks as well, as I have been training recently to compete on the futures circuit hopefully before year’s end in 2024).
I have a somewhat unique approach to coaching tennis as compared to some other coaches in that I like to give the player I am coaching the full understanding that I posses as best I can, so that eventually they know what mistake they are making before I even get a chance to say anything as a coach. And that approach is what leads to the consistency and effectiveness necessary to compete at a high level on court, because while they are playing, I can’t actively coach them during the point. As a result, I excel at breaking down the complex tennis concepts necessary to understand into easily understandable guidance that a player can use on their own & then put into practice.
I’ve spent most of my years coaching academy level tennis players, however, I like to think that I’m able to offer just as much to the true beginner as I am to the player trying to break into the professional tennis scene. I guarantee noticeably visible improvement within the first lesson or your money back. Never once has someone asked for their money back. Additionally, due to the results I have been able to get as a coach thus far, I have big plans to open an academy with a fellow coach who has spent much of his adult life coaching men’s D1 tennis at several D1 schools, but we are still working on getting the funding together to do so. Nothing brings me more satisfaction than helping players achieve their goals in tennis, whatever those may be, and I am personally invested in my players’ success which I believe shows through in my coaching and my level of passion for the game.
I am offering fun private tennis lessons, semi-private tennis lessons and group tennis lessons for all ages (kids, teens, adults, seniors) and for all skill levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced). So whether you need to work on some specifics like your forehand, backhand, volley, serve, service return, overhead, drop shot, approach shot, footwork, singles strategy or doubles strategy-I would be very happy to help!
I teach tennis lessons in the St. Petersburg and Tampa area but I will travel up to 15 miles to a tennis court conveniently located near you.
