About Matthew
Hi, my name is Matthew and I am a local tennis coach in Irvine and Orange! I have over 20 years of playing experience and over 8 years of teaching experience. I represented UC Irvine’s Division 1 men’s tennis team from 2019-2024 & captained the team from 2022-2024.
In my collegiate career, I led the team to 2 postseason conference championships, 1 regular season conference championship and 2 NCAA appearances. Individually, I recorded over 50 dual match wins, finished at #25 on UC Irvine’s all time win list for doubles and I also received scholar athlete distinction all 5 years. Prior to playing in college, I was the #1 ranked U18 singles player in Southern California, was selected to represent Southern California in the intersectional championships 3x, won several national titles and led Torrey Pines High School to 1 All American national championship, 1 CIF State Championship and 3 CIF San Diego championships. Since I began coaching in high school, I have worked with players of all ages and levels. I’ve taught kids just picking up the sport, high schoolers who are on (or trying to make) their JV or Varsity teams and adults just trying to improve or get a great workout. Some of the competitive junior players that I’ve worked over the years have been recruited to play collegiate tennis at Yale, Oregon, Vanderbilt as well as Cal Poly.
I am offering fun private tennis lessons, semi-private tennis lessons, group tennis lessons and hitting only sessions for all ages (kids, teens, adults, seniors) and for all skill levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced). So whether you need to work on some specifics like your forehand, backhand, volley, serve, service return, overhead, drop shot, approach shot, footwork, singles strategy or doubles strategy-I would be more than happy to help you out with your tennis game!
I teach tennis lessons in the Irvine area but I will travel up to 10 miles.
