About Rodger
Hi my name is Rodger and I am a fun, local Gilbert tennis coach with over 45 years of playing experience and over 10 years of teaching experience! I am also a USPTA Elite Certified Tennis Professional. I am very excited to be teaching tennis here in Gilbert and to hopefully pass on my passion for the game and to inspire others to experience “the sport of a lifetime” which has brought me great pleasure, great joy and friendships throughout my life. My teaching philosophy is to keep it simple, keep it fun and be adaptable. As far as my coaching experience, I have formerly been a Head Tennis Coach at a Division 2 university in Carson, California (for both the men’s and women’s teams). I have run multiple summer tennis camps & tennis academy’s for children ages 5-18 in Los Angeles, San Diego as well as Acapulco and Rosarito, Mexico. I have coached high school tennis teams, both boys and girls teams in San Diego and in Salinas, California. I was a middle and high school physical education teacher in San Diego and Salinas, California. I ran a 6 clay tennis court facility and maintained the courts in Huntsville, Alabama and have given private and group tennis lessons to all ages. As far as my playing experience, I played at Loyola Marymount University (Division 1). I have obtained an NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) rating as high as 5.5. I was highly ranked in my age group when I was back in San Diego (#1 in doubles in the 40’s, 45’s, 50’s and I was usually in the top 3 in singles as well).
I am offering fun private tennis lessons, semi-private tennis lessons, group tennis lessons and hitting only sessions for all ages (kids, teens, adults, seniors) and for all skill levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced). So whether you need to work on some specifics like your forehand, backhand, volley, serve, service return, overhead, drop shot, approach shot, footwork, singles strategy or doubles strategy-I would be more than happy to help you out with your tennis game!
I teach tennis lessons in the Gilbert, Chandler and Mesa area but I will also travel up to 10 miles to a tennis court located close to you.
