New York City, New York is the world’s champion in sports and playing tennis in New York City is a must! It is the home of the United States Open Tennis Championship which is the nation’s largest annual tennis tournament. It is chronologically the fourth and the final tennis major comprising the Grand Slam each year that include the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.
The US OPEN has a very rich history dating back to August of 1881 when it first began on the simple grass courts at the Newport Casino in Newport, Rhode Island. The US OPEN is the only Grand Slam tournament that has been played consistently each year since its inception. The tournament is held annually each and every summer at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, New York City).
The main tournament consists of five great event championships including both Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles with the addition of Junior, Senior and Wheelchair tournaments. It’s a tournament you won’t want to miss and it starts at the end of August each year! The USTA (United States Tennis Association) is a not-for-profit organization that owns and operates the US OPEN. The net proceeds go towards the promotion of developing tennis across the United States.
